Finding And Speaking Your Truth- Throat Chakra

02/04/2021

The ancient Sanskrit word Vishuddha, or throat chakra, translates to "pure" or "purification". We began with the roots, our connection to the earth and ourselves. As we move past the heart chakra, the center of the chakra system, we begin to move into the upper ethereal chakras that deal with spiritual principles. The first of the upper chakras is the throat chakra. This rules one's expression and truth both internally and externally. Opening the throat chakra helps us to embrace our personal individuality and creativity, and connects us better to the concept of truth. The throat is our voice- our communication, expression of thoughts, feelings and ideas. It is the speaker for our own personal truths and integrity. "I speak", this chakra is a masculine derived energy, exerting one's force and power through their communication- and making sure that what you're saying is in alignment with your authentic self. In other words, don't lie in your speech or communication. However speaking is not the only function of the throat chakra- actively being able to listen to others speak is another key function of a healthy and balanced chakra. Here are a few correlations to better understand this chakra at a glance.

A balanced throat chakra

An unblocked throat chakra is a clear communicator with a resonant voice. They live creatively and have a good sense of timing and rhythm. As mentioned above, they are good listeners as well, actively able to discern when one needs comfort or when one needs advice. Resonance is a state of synchronization among vibrational patterns. We are surrounded by noises and different wavelength resonations all day long- (Music, the crosswalk, the busy grocery store, honking horns of cars in traffic, the nagging voice of your mother...) the key of a balanced chakra is to be able to integrate the resonations around us all day long while keeping our OWN resonation and staying in alignment with ourselves despite our surroundings. Being able to speak our truth, express our creativity and live in harmony with those who are doing the same all around us.

Deficient/Blocked Chakra

When there is a lack of flow to the throat chakra, one may feel insecure, timid and tends to act rather introvertedly. Sometimes they may have an excessive fear of speaking, and when they do, it's a small childlike voice. There is a difficulty putting words to their emotions and feelings. They possess excessive secretiveness and shyness, especially about their own personality. Oftentimes unable to express themselves creatively, or even at all. This sometimes causes them to appear to be insensitive to others' needs when they simply don't know how to communicate. The deficient chakra will often fixate on images or ideas rather than reality. Monopolorized- meaning, in their eyes there is only one right way. They are especially prone to denial and have difficulty seeing alternatives to situations- even when someone else is trying to communicate alternative solutions.

Excess Chakra

An excess of energy to the throat leads to gossiping, non stop talking, and verbal aggression. There is a lack of control of speech- these people often say things with little to no purpose and this oftentimes leads to speaking at inappropriate times or speaking offensively. When confronted by others with communication, there is a strong inability to listen and poor auditory comprehension. A very unbalanced throat chakra will probably interrupt others often- even during intimate and inappropriate times. Many times an overactive throat chakra will have a hard time keeping their word, as they have said too much and do not want to follow through with all they have said. This is a form of lying and inauthenticity. An intense need to over-express oneself, sometimes pushing it onto others and getting upset when they don't agree with your same ideals. Talking is their defense mechanism- often using their words as weapons and with their dominating and interruptive voice, it is easy for them to make one feel small.

Healing Practices

Tea

Colors

As mentioned in all the previous chakra articles, and will continue to be in the future ones as well, using chakra colors is a great way to bring that energy flow into your every day life. Blue rules the throat chakra- wear blue, eat blue, color with blue... Feeling like taking it to the next step? Listen to this throat chakra frequency while painting with the color blue. See where it takes you. Or find a frequency video that better suits you!

Water

Cleanse with water. If it's warm enough, visit a nearby body of water and enjoy a refreshing dip- even if its just the feet. Embody the blue of the water, feel its energy flow through you. Alternatively, do this same method at home with a glass of water every morning. Drink it- and remember to stay hydrated as a healthy throat chakra practice.

Yoga

Some yoga poses to strengthen this chakra are bow pose, sanding forward fold, camel, and lion's pose

Talk it Out

Some of us have access to professional help and therapists, and if you do, this is a great resource to use. If you don't have this option, try to find someone you are close to that you feel you can trust and talk it out. Try to be open in our communication and make it a point to be honest and authentic. Speak in a heartfelt way.

Journaling

If talking seems to be too big of a step right now, or if you just want extra healing practices, journaling is a great and private way to confront yourself. Write down your feelings, express yourself completely without censoring. A great plus about journaling is being able to go back and read, see, and try to further understand where your feelings are coming from.

Sing

As the chakra of vibrations, it would only make sense that singing and music go hand in hand with the healing practices. Put on a playlist of good upbeat music, or sing along to your favorite songs to help you practice emotional expression. Singing helps dispel blockages, active and balance this chakra.

Practice Silence

If your chakra is overactive, practicing silence and stillness may be more suited for you. Meditation and breathing exercises are great tools to help achieve this goal.

Non-goal-oriented creativity

Work on something creative without an end goal- this will force your creativity to go wild. Don't give yourself an expectation of a finished product- don't limit yourself to an end or style. This is part of finding your authentic creative self.
